As an alternative to galvanized steel, mild steel can be primed with an epoxy-based zinc powder primer.

Corro-Zinc 97, an epoxy-based zinc rich powder coating, is designed to be used as a primer on phosphated or blast-cleaned steel objects and structures. In combination with a polyester powder coatings top coat (Corro-Coat PE and Corro-Coat PE-F) the system provides a good aesthetic finish, excellent mechanical properties and outstanding corrosion resistance.
